I've always had best results on a white wall.

As the title states, I eventually want to get a screen to project my movies and slides on...my screen mildewed years ago, and is gone...what size was the usual size that people used to get for this...50x50? 70x70? I'm talking about a regular sized DaLite tripod screen..but I don't remember the size...also, which is best for good images..the beaded glass? I think they have a matte finish, also. the "picture king" model from DaLite interests me the most, i'm just not sure about the size and materials.

I don't mind using the wall, but all of the walls upstairs are painted a taupe color, which interferes with the colors on my slides and movies..also, the way my livingroom is set up, there are no blank walls to comfortably watch from the sitting areas.

I come across 40 and 50 inch screens w/stands all the time at tag sales. Most of the time people are selling them for $10 or less. Usually see glass beaded or white matte. I have a 70" grey matte which works ok. If you have the room go for a 70" cause the picture size is pretty awesome. Oh yeah, projectors with a 100 watt or less lamp can struggle filling a 70" screen with enough light.

my projector bulb is a 100 watt...i haven't bought the slide projector yet...I've noticed that some of the more expensive models have 2 light settings...are these more desirable, and can you use the brighter setting at closer ranges, or will it "wash out" the slide pictures if you're not far enough back? I wouldn't be able to get that far back, so I guess a 50 or 60 is more of what I need. Thanks for the advice..I hadn't thought about the bulb before! mike

I use to have an Elmo GS-1200 with a 250 watt lamp installed and it was so nice (I'm gonna tear up if I keep talking about it ). Now I use a 2 Elmo's, a ST-1200 D and 1200 HD. Both have a 150 watt lamp with hi/lo brightness. Not much difference in the settings but the brighter setting does help a touch for a bigger picture.

I have a Bell and Howell Filmo Duo Slide projector that still works...but it only takes 2 slides at a time, so i want something more convenient..I checked the bulb on it, and it's a 300 watter! When you run it, it gets incredibly hot!

Somewhere in the archives is a topic post about projectors, and I remember saying that the brighter setting doesn't really make that big of a difference on the projectors that have two brightness settings.
Was that you Cameraguy who disagreed with that sentiment back then, or was it somebody else?
Anway, I like a big white wall, but only if it happens to be in the right spot. I think a bigger screen with a slightly smaller image is better than a smaller screen with the image going all the way to the edge of the screen.
Have you considered projecting your films outside during the summer?
Mikey B, be careful with that excessively hot slide projector, your slides can be damaged or warped by excessive heat. If there is no fan, I would definitely consider an aftermarket minature fan that automatically turns on when you power up the unit. (some wiring is required, so don't try it if you aren't educated in the procedure)

Yeah, I already figured that if I left the slide in there long enough, it would damage the slide, so I was very careful to only leave it in there a short time...I want a carousel type projector, which is why I probably won't mess with trying to wire a fan into that ancient Bell and Howell..I just wanted to see what the slides looked like big. I guess I'll just wait until I get a new slide projector..project the image and move the size around until it's where I want it then measure and go by that .
